Share the Road Demonstration

Thank you to all the members who turned up on Saturday 3 October. We hope you had fun learning how we can keep safe around trucks and can appreciate the difficulties truck drivers have sighting cyclists on the road. Many thanks to Kelvin Aris for the demonstration.

Regular Club Events

Well, you have come to the right place if you want to enjoy some social bicycle riding and the coffee and tea drinking that goes with it.

The East Auckland Seniors Cycling Club rides on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Join us at 8.50 am for a 9.00 am start on Wednesday, from the Scout Hall car park, Pigeon Mountain Road, Half Moon Bay. These rides are usually around 20 km. We may ride the Rotary Path alongside the Tamaki River up to Panmure and then could go around the Panmure Basin or along to Point England. Another ride would be along the Cascades Walkway to Burswood and/or Meadowlands. Our final regular option takes us on a Half Moon Bay Tiki Tour, along Bucklands Beach to Musick Point and then back via Eastern Beach.

Our Saturday rides are usually a little longer. Sometimes we start from Pigeon Mountain car park, but may well start somewhere else. Starting places are shown on our rides list. Often we will take the 8.30 am ferry from Half Moon Bay to the city and start our ride from there. Saturday rides could be as short as 25 km and occasionally as long as 50 km.

All our Wednesday and Saturday rides include a coffee stop, of course!

Sometimes we head out of town for the weekend to places such as Napier/Hastings, the Pureora Timber Trail or the Twin Coast Cycle Trail.

We ride at a leisurely pace, probably averaging 15 – 20 km/h. On a ride, you should be self-sufficient. Your bike needs to be well maintained. You should carry a puncture repair kit and two spare tubes. You will be wearing a crash helmet and have something to drink to stay hydrated. We encourage you to be a considerate and careful rider.
